Small business marketing is key to success

Once an entrepreneur has established him or herself as a trusted resource, small business marketing tips, from establishing a brand to building an outreach plan and engaging clients through social media, can help increase small business sales? and solidify customer loyalty .

Develop an image over time
Plumber Charlie Mullins said in his Guardian editorial that the most valuable period in his career was when he was just starting out. During the time he was securing his first clients, he was faced with the challenge of rising above the stereotypes people held about his line of work that without being addressed would have made him a mediocre businessman at best. Mullins claimed the work he put into completing honest jobs was just as important at the beginning of his company, Pimlico Plumbers, as it has continued to be as he fine tunes his business? image by assuring the men and women who work for him carry the same esteem he did working alone in 1979.

Now that the hard part of ensuring trust among clients has passed, Mullins?is able to invest in aspects of the business that are more superficial but continue to promote the trustworthy, approachable air he?made a priority 34 years ago. Vanity license plates, he noted in The Guardian, have been one of his favorite additions to his business, as he has found giving clients a bit of fun to watch for related to his business during their everyday routines is immensely valuable.

Structure can give a boost
A straightforward marketing plan can be helpful to those who have established their organizations but need a lift in business, according to Entrepreneur contributor Kim Gordon, owner of National Marketing Federation. An effective breakdown needs only five sections laid out: a description of the business? state before any marketing changes have been made, an outline of the types of people the company has or wants to attract as customers, a list of the organization?s desired accomplishments, an analysis of chosen marketing methods and how the business will pay for their small business marketing campaign.

While all of the parts of a marketing plan can be written out simply, Gordon noted the introduction to this document will take a good amount of reflection from business owners and decision-making employees. Thankfully for professionals outside of the communications industry, writing skills do not have to be perfect as long as the person in charge of the marketing plan is able to accurately convey the substance of his or her proposed strategies.

Social media comes later
Many people believe great small business marketing campaigns start on Facebook, Twitter or some other social media platform, but the sources suggest pushing business on social networks is a step business owners should take after establishing their companies? brands and working out direct marketing initiatives. Once business is moving, Ramon Ray, author of The Facebook Guide to Small Business Marketing, claims that there are several ways small business marketing directors can utilize Facebook?to boost sales.

Ray suggests that too many entrepreneurs focus on reaching out to as many people as possible rather than producing content that will get future clients engaged. Posting pictures, statuses and questionnaires that encourage users to reach back to the company is the ideal way to manage a page. The timeline, he says, is incredibly useful for building relationships with clients and creating a brand through modern techniques.
